Richard Steig was identified by Agent Dunham, through Synaptic Transfer, as the individual responsible for the explosion of the makeshift labs in a public storage facility.
About
Nina Sharp explained that Richard worked in the Weapons System Research Lab at Massive Dynamic. He was allegedly caught leaving the premises with classified information. He was terminated and reported to the Justice Department. The FBI assumed that Richard Steig was the twin brother of Flight 627 culprit Morgan Steig. On the tape recovered by Olivia, Steig is heard referring to "what I did to my own brother;" he did not use the word "twin."
Richard Steig appeared at a security checkpoint to the ramp at Logan International Airport, just after Olivia Dunham arrived with the rest of Agent Broyles' task force. He asked if there was some sort of accident.
Steig activated the explosives that sent Scott and Dunham to the hospital in Pilot. He was later pursued and arrested by Dunham and Peter Bishop. Agent Scott, recovered from his exposure to "The Contagion", smothered Steig in his hospital bed.
