Help on posting theories
Broyles is completely aware about what the Pattern is, but has not briefed his current team (or the viewers).
Theory Description:
Broyles is well aware of what is going on with, or perhaps directly involved with, the Pattern. He is using his and his team's actions to meet a certain (ulterior) goal. --UrPQ31 16:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
     Supporting Facts or Evidence:

  1. John Scott makes Olivia question why Broyles send her to the storage facility in Pilot. This could simply be referring to the fact that Broyles knew what was there and wanted Olivia to be injured, or Broyles does indeed know more than he lets on, and wanted Olivia to see it first hand.--UrPQ31 16:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
  2. In The Same Old Story, Broyles is seen to be head of the Oversight Committee, which appears to be made up of world leaders, monitoring the events of the Pattern.--UrPQ31 16:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
  3. In The Road Not Taken, Nina Sharp shows up at Broyle's house late at night, showing him photos of the Observer from the last 24 hours, and stating that he knows what happened the last time he showed up so frequently.--UrPQ31 16:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Phillip Broyles as a link between Fringe and Lost

Department of Homeland Security Agent Phillip Broyles of FRINGE and Agent Matthew Abaddon of LOST are one and the same person

  • Both Broyles and Abaddon are portrayed by actor Lance Reddick.
  • The subject matter of Phillip Broyles's investigations on FRINGE would put him in a perfect place to investigate claims about the mysterious island on LOST with that is not only a natural enigma but the site of possible fringe experiments by the Dharma Initiative.
  • It seems unlikely that there would be this kind of crossover between LOST and Fringe, especially since the two shows are on different networks. Despite the fact that J.J. Abrams created both shows, I feel that ABC would have a problem with this idea.
    • Agree. Everything about the promotion for Fringe suggests it is a stand alone series.
    • Agree. Both shows are works of fiction. There is nothing to suggest that the two shows would be connected in any way. Broyles and Abaddon are merely played by the same actor.
  • The appearance of Oceanic Airlines in The Dreamscape may be a hint that both FRINGE and LOST are taking place in the same fictionnal universe.
    • The airline appearing in FRINGE is named Oceanic Air, and its logo is also different from the one used by the Lost airline.
      • However, it is possible that on Lost, after the disappearance of Flight 815, Oceanic Airlines may have changed their name to Oceanic Air to protect their image. It's just like what's happening right now with Circuit City: the franchise is essentially going out of business, but the few stores that have stayed in business are changing their name to just "The City". I don't necessarily agree with this whole Oceanic Air/Lost crossover theory, I just felt it necessary to play devil's advocate.
  • Both programs deal with some aspect of fringe science - specifically, human age/fertility issues & teleportation-like capabilities. The actor is irrelevant to the theory, as is the fictional airline. ( –DocH my edits )

Phillip Broyles, Nina Sharp Connection

It's possible that Phillip Broyles along with Nina Sharp are pulling a side operation using the Pattern as a means of achieving some hidden goal. When Olivia was kidnapped by Mr. Jones and Broyles accused her, it could have been that they were partners and he felt as if she was betraying him.

  • There is certainly something going on, perhaps related to The Oversight Committee. Broyles did not appreciate Olivia questionning Nina's motives. However, when Olivia disappears he immediately suspects Nina to be involved. This is happening at a point where Nina has realized that some of the information she wants from John Scott is now in Olivia's brain. Was Broyles made aware of this and is it why he suspects her?
  • Nina tried more than once to hire Olivia, and Broyles never really protested.--Cadae 13:40, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
