The disk
A Glass Disk is a highly advanced data storage device. It was used by undercover NSA agents such as Evelina Mendoza, John Scott, Daniel Hicks, and Marshall Bowman.

About

In The Ghost Network, Grant Davidson removed a high-tech micro-disk from the hand of the recently deceased DEA Special Agent Evelina Mendoza, who was attempting to leave her undercover mission with a drug cartel. Olivia later realized that Davidson has deceived her during his interview at the Federal Building, having entered the morgue, not as a friend of Mendoza, but to slice her hand open and remove the embedded chip.

The disk container

Matthew Ziegler, responsible for the death of Mendoza in the attack on the commuter bus, assassinated Davidson and took the disk at the South Station rail terminal. The Science Team tracked Davidson and Ziegler by listening into the Ghost Network using Roy McComb, simultaneously directing Olivia and Charlie to intercept the two as they were meeting. As Ziegler was fleeing with the disk, Dunham and Francis attempted to arrest him. He relinquished the disk and his weapon, then jumped in front of an oncoming bus to avoid his arrest.

Later on, Broyles handed over the disk to Nina Sharp in a private meeting, saying "I'm sure you can understand why I don't want to go through channels."

In the last scene of the episode, Sharp and a Massive Dynamic scientist inspected the disk with the comment that the "crystalline structure" is intact and that there are "no detectable oscillations". Nearby, John Scott rests in a chamber where a large monitor is active, and the scientist comments that they have stabilized the link and have been pulling information from the disk for over 72 hours.

In The Transformation, Walter removed a similar disk from the palm of the transformed and deceased Marshall Bowman. Olivia later looked at Daniel Hicks's palm while he was in a medically induced coma and asked Walter to cut into the palm. Walter complied and discovered another disk. Based on this information, Olivia went to Broyles's office and told him she wanted to have John Scott's body exhumed, to search for a disk in his hand. Broyles was then forced to admit that Scott had never been buried. He took Olivia to Massive Dynamic facility where Broyles revealed that a disk had indeed been discovered embedded in Agent Scott's palm. After assuring Olivia that keeping the truth from her had not been her decision, Nina Sharp showed John's body to Olivia. Nina also mentioned that Massive Dynamic scientists believe the disk self-destructs when the host dies, another reason for keeping Scott in a suspended state.

So far, there has been no indication of what plans Massive Dynamic has for the data it has acquired.
